Mount Tamalpais
Marin County, CA
One of my personal challenges in photography is knowing when the scene I just drove past and saw in a flash was real and worth going back for, or exists only in my brain as a composite of several separate elements I saw in those fractions of a second. If I stop every time, I will never get to where I am going. But I am super grateful that I stopped this time, turned around, and went back for this photograph. This might be my favorite image at the moment. I have a giant 40" x 50" print of this hanging on my wall. The detail in the forest floor and the rocks in the streams can be studied for hours. As one might guess, this was taken during the winter after a heavy period of rain so there was a lot of water flowing off the mountain down to the sea.
