I never thought I would be able to make this image, even though I had it in my mind's eye since I was very young. As you can see, the tunnel is only one lane wide, so the traffic switches direction every eight minutes or so. I was there very late on a night between Christmas and New Years and there were no other cars. It was my chance! I still had to move quickly in case traffic would be coming from the other direction. I am so grateful to have this image for myself. And I am excited to share it with others. Two years later, the tunnel was renovated. The walls and pipes are much cleaner and more modern now. To me, it had more charm with decades of wear and leaking cracks in the walls, as this image has preserved.
